Micron- to atomic-scale investigation of rare earth elements in iron oxides

چکیده
Hematite (α-Fe 2 O 3 ) and magnetite (Fe 4 readily accommodate a wide range of minor trace elements from across the periodic table at up to wt.% concentrations. This prompts question whether these common minerals can also host rare earth (lanthanides, Y Sc; REEs)? If so, what is chemical physical nature elements: are they incorporated into oxide crystal structures, or do occur as nanometer-to micron-sized inclusions discrete REE-minerals? By combining micron-scale petrography analysis by LA-ICP-MS with nanoscale imaging energy-dispersive spectroscopy, relationships between REEs iron-oxides addressed in samples world-class Olympic Dam Cu-U-Au-Ag deposit, South Australia. متن کاملRare Earth Elements Profile
Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...

متن کاملConcentration and recycling of rare earth elements (REEs) from iron mine waste using a combination of physical separation methods
This study aims to investigate and optimize the effects of the main parameters including the particle size, gravity and magnetic separation combination, high gradient magnetic separation, magnetic field intensity, shaking table slope, washing water flow, and electrostatic separation upon the rare earth element (REE) recoveries from iron mine waste. The electron microprobe showed that high amoun...
